In this
section we'll take a brief look at what's been happening in some of the
fastest-growing industries in the province. Most of these industries are still
quite small, but they'll bear watching during the next few years.

Many of the high-growth industries in the
economy are in the business, building & other support services industry or
the high-tech sector. The fastest-growing industry is business services, where
employment has increased to more than five times the 1990 level. Computer
systems design, and management, scientific & technical services have also
seen exceptionally strong growth during this period.
Other industries in the top ten include
other schools & educational support, management of enterprises, security
services, motion picture & sound recording, traveling services, rental
& leasing, and warehousing & storage. Employment in each of these
industries has more than doubled since 1990.
In terms of GDP growth, the computer &
electronic manufacturing industry has seen the biggest increase during this
period, with GDP increasing to more than eight-and-a-half times the 1990 level.
The miscellaneous manufacturing, leather & allied products, food &
beverage manufacturing and motion picture & sound recording industries have
all seen GDP more than triple during this period.
