What are the fastest-growing industries in the province?
Many of the high-growth industries in the economy are in the business, building & other support services industry (highlighted in green in figure 8) or the high tech sector (highlighted in blue).
 The fastest-growing industry is business services, where employment has increased 396% since 1990. High tech industries such as computer systems design also feature prominently among the province’s fastest-growing industries. Computer systems design (+315%) has also seen exceptionally strong growth during this period, while the number of people working in the motion picture & sound recording industry has grown 266%. Most of these industries are still quite small, but they will be interesting to watch during the next few years.

Other industries in the top 10 include waste management & remediation (+239%), management, scientific & technical services (+222%), management of enterprises (+213%), security services (+186%), warehousing & storage (+185%), other schools & educational support (+183%) and building services (+144%). Employment in these, and a number of other industries, has more than doubled since 1990.
In terms of GDP growth, repair & maintenance, miscellaneous manufacturing, waste management & remediation, computer systems design, and animal aquaculture have all recorded extremely strong growth since 1997, the first year for which this information is available. GDP in all these industries has more than doubled and, in the case of repair & maintenance, has tripled.
